Education Grants

To further encourage the engagement in education and career development the Clubs, NRL and RLPA are contributing over 2.5 million dollars in education grants to all NRL, State Cup and NYC players.

This funding can be used for any type of education: from a forklift licence to a post- graduate degree.

There were 450 education grants provided to players in the 2014 season from the NRL/RLPA education fund, totalling more than $600,000.

Education Grant Criteria

STATE CUP (Nrl-contracted & Training F/t)

  • 50% of educational costs up to a maximum of $2K per year.
  • $1K tuition grant per year for GOL participants.

STATE CUP (Non Nrl-contracted)

50% of educational costs up to a maximum of $500.00 per year for any player who has played >10 State Cup games in the current season or >20 State Cup games in past two seasons.

STATE CUP Or Next Tier (<1yr Off Contract)

Rugby League players who were signed to an NRL contract (NYC or NRL) in the previous year who were studying at university during that year are eligible for a further year of funding:

  • 50% of university course fees up to a maximum of $2,000.00 per year.
  • $1K tuition grant per year for GOL participants.

NRL (Not In Top 25 Squad)

NRL contracted players outside of the top 25 and paid less than the minimum award are eligible to apply for:

  • 50% of educational costs up to a maximum of $2,000.00 per year.
  • A tuition grant of $1,000.00 per year for GOL participants.

How To Apply For An Education Grant

  1. Ensure you meet the Education Grant criteria (see above),
  2. Request an Education Grant Application from your Welfare and Education Manager (start at your club),
  3. Provide proof of course enrolment in conjunction with a statement of the associated fees,
  4. Submit completed Application to Welfare and Education Manager.
